Pets entering an animal rescue or shelter often need a little additional care to get ready to start their new lives with loving adopters. Shelter and rescue pets across the United States are getting the start they need thanks in part to the Bayer “Treated with Love” grant program administered in collaboration with Adopt-a-Pet.com. Through the program, Bayer is providing a total of $20,000 in product, including Advantage® II flea prevention for cats and K9 Advantix® II flea, tick and mosquito prevention for dogs. Adopt-a-Pet.com will grant the product to animal welfare organizations throughout 2017.

Below are photos and stories from three of the first recipient organizations to benefit from the Bayer grants.

Organization: C.A.R.E./Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts
Location: Saint Clair Shores, MI
Grant Amount: $500 (60 monthly treatments) of Advantage® II for cats; $600 (60 monthly treatments) of K9 Advantix® II for dogs

Before and After picture of DexterMeet Dexter, a sweet young Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found dumped in a garbage can and left to fend for himself. When he was found by C.A.R.E., he had a bad skin condition that can be difficult to treat. With lots of love and tender care from the staff at C.A.R.E., as well as the use of K9 Advantix® II, Dexter is now living his happily-ever-after with his forever family. He even has a new best friend who happens to be a bunny! "To be chosen for this "Treated with Love" grant is like hitting the lottery!!!" says the staff at C.A.R.E. "We also, when we have a choice, always choose Advantage® II for our kitties and K9 Advantix® II for our dogs."

Organization: Nuzzles & Co. Pet Rescue and Adoption
Location: Peoa, UT
Grant Amount: $1,300 (156 montly treatments) of Advantage® II for cats; $1,250 (120 monthly treatments) of K9 Advantix® II for dogs.

Before and After picture of OdessaMeet Odessa, just one of the pets that has been rescued by Nuzzles & Co. This group is committed to rescuing cats and dogs from city and county shelters across Utah and in neighboring states, and they also rescue animals from the nearby Navajo and Ute Reservations. Many of the dogs and cats are covered in fleas, ticks, or lice and require immediate care; therefore, it is crucial to have products available to treat them. You can see in the photo above how well Odessa fared in the care of Nuzzles & Co.

Grant Amount: $1,250 (120 monthly treatments) of K9 Advantix® II for dogs

Before and After picture of Itchy 21Meet the "Itchy 21", that Pet Angels took in and nursed back to health. A small group of volunteers from Pet Angels was called to an emergency animal hoarding/backyard breeder situation in Bridgeport, OK. As you can see from the "before" picture at left, the dogs were covered in fleas and ticks. All 21 animals were taken in and cared for by Pet Angels. The "after" picture shows how well one of the "Itchy 21" dogs recovered. All but one of the dogs were able to be saved and adopted! Check out a video about one of the successful adoptions.
