Remend®Corneal Repair Gel
Dogs and cats frequently get scratches or abrasions on their eyes, also known as superficial corneal ulcers. Remend® Corneal Repair Gel can help support the natural healing process of the eye as it heals.* The cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) gel provides a framework for cells and healing factors around the ulcer to use during the repair process while enhancing lubrication and hydration of the eye's surface when used twice daily.
The benefits of Remend® Corneal Repair Gel:
- Cross-linked HA - Provides enhanced lubrication and hydration of the corneal surface and creates an environment for healing over the defect created by the ulcer
- High levels of HA - Contains higher levels of HA than found in some other common HA-based eye products
- For cats and dogs - Product is specially formulated for cats and dogs
- Ease of application - Valuable aid with as little as two times a day application
- Formulation - Antibiotic, steroid and preservative free
*Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.

Remend® Corneal Repair Gel FAQs
What is a superficial corneal ulcer? What are the clinical signs?
A superficial corneal ulcer or corneal abrasion occurs when the outside layer of the eye (the clear cornea) encounters some sort of trauma, usually via a scratch. This occurs commonly in dogs and cats as they tend to poke their head in areas they are not supposed to. Pets that have a superficial corneal ulcer will typically be squinting or holding the eye shut. The eye may also appear red and have discharge. Ulcers are very painful.
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.
How is a superficial corneal ulcer diagnosed?
A superficial corneal ulcer is something that can only be diagnosed at the veterinarian’s office. If you think your pet is suffering from a superficial corneal ulcer, an urgent trip to the veterinarian is warranted as superficial corneal ulcers are painful and can permanently harm the eye if not addressed.
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.
How are superficial corneal ulcers treated?
The mainstay of treating a superficial corneal ulcer is with topical antibiotic therapy in the form of eye drops and pain control. Additionally, there are also other products that can be used as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of superficial corneal ulcers that help the healing process and support the eye. Some of these options include utilizing the benefits of hyaluronic acid (HA).
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic
What is hyaluronic acid (HA)?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance produced by the body that has many roles and functions. It can help support the natural wound healing process, provide lubrication for joints, and help with tissue hydration by holding water. It has been incorporated into many medical products and technologies for a variety of purposes, including cosmetics as well as skin, joint, and eye health.
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.
What is Remend® Corneal Repair Gel?
Remend® Corneal Repair Gel is a topical eye drop that is used to assist in the treatment of superficial corneal ulcers. It utilizes hyaluronic acid that has been medically modified and cross-linked to help support the natural healing process of superficial corneal ulcers in dogs and cats. It is not meant to be used in place of antibiotics or pain control.
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.
How does the advanced cross-linked hyaluronic acid technology in Remend® Corneal Repair Gel work?
Despite being clear, the cornea is not all that different from skin. It is made up of a surface layer of cells and supported by a matrix of specialized connective tissue underneath. These cells and corresponding matrix are neatly stacked so that they are clear. hen an eye is scratched, a section of these cells are lost creating a gap or divot in the eye. The repair gel helps fill in this gap by providing a framework or scaffolding matrix for the healthy cells around the scratch to slide over and seal the defect.
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.
Are there any other benefits of cross-linked modified HA?
The cross linked-HA found in Remend® Corneal Repair Gel provides enhanced lubrication and hydration of the corneal surface, which may help reduce the pet’s discomfort.
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.
Isn't hyaluronic acid just used as a joint lubricant?
While some types of hyaluronic acid are used to enhance lubrication in joints and for other purposes, Remend® Corneal Repair Gel is made up of a unique hyaluronic acid gel that has been specially modified to make it cross-linked, providing an environment conducive to cell movement supporting the natural wound healing process.1
Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.

How is Remend® Corneal Repair Gel applied?
Hands should be washed prior to application to ensure cleanliness. Place 1 to 2 drops directly on the affected eye. Do not touch the tip of the bottle to the eye. Warnings: For animal use only. Not to be used as a sole therapy for superficial corneal ulcers; does not contain an antibiotic.
How often must Remend® Corneal Repair Gel be applied?
